DIRECTOR – MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

MATERIALS & PROCUREMENT DEPARTMENT

We are currently seeking a Director – Materials Management.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Establishing the direction, goals and objectives, protection and the overall management/ control of receiving, distribution, storing and issuing of the TTC’s materials assets, including the management of rebuilt parts
  • Overseeing the Inventory Management area to ensure the management of all inventory to an optimal level; the maximum efficiency and optimal use of the Industrial & Financial Systems (IFS) capabilities; and the effective resolution of quality issues through the area’s Quality Control Lab
  • Planning, establishing and managing the section’s capital and operating requirements regarding all resources, facilities, equipment, vehicles, contracts and other requirements necessary to ensure adequate secure storage for the TTC’s controlled inventory including the handling, movement and distribution of same as required throughout the TTC
  • Managing an efficient and effective 7 days a week, 24 hours a day Materials Management operation at over 39 locations, including front line operating facilities, main warehouses and shops, to meet the maintenance needs throughout the TTC
  • Overseeing all aspects of the Materials Management section work planning; ensuring qualified employees that are properly trained and knowledgeable in work and safety procedures; and ensuring overall effectiveness of the workforce
  • Preparing and managing business plans and financial budgets, and preparing relevant reports
  • Setting strategies to implement KPIs in conjunction with the Head of Materials & Procurement
  • Ensuring TTC’s surplus assets are identified and disposed of in a timely manner
  • Responsible for the reduction of shortages and excess inventory levels
  • Participation in the TTC customer service Ambassador Program
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Sound knowledge of materials management and materials handling principles, methods and practices relating to inventory management, warehousing and distribution including at least 5 years of demonstrated experience managing a high value inventory and a large workforce of union and non-union employees;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business administration, fiscal and human relations concepts/practices, and good understanding of pertinent human resources policies and legislation/regulations (e.g. Human Rights, Labour Relations, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, etc.);
  • Good knowledge of systems relationship to Purchasing, Procurement and Warehousing functions as well as good working knowledge of computers and related applications
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and managing a large budget, achieving results within budget
  • Sound judgement; strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving skills, oral and written communication skills and ability to manage change effectively
  • Discipline complemented with a broad exposure to business concepts and principles
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s licence and the use of a personal automobile to attend at stores locations
  • Must have or rapidly acquire sound working knowledge of relevant collective agreements, seniority regulations and other relevant legislation or regulations; TTC policies and practices, organizational structure, functions and operations
  • University degree in a relevant discipline and/or certification from the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) combined with progressively responsible experience in related functions
  • Must obtain a Certificate in Purchasing with the 3 related courses: Principles in Buying, Principles in Inventory Control, and Principles in Transportation and Logistics
  • Extensive directly-related work experience in a unionized environment considered an asset
  • Required to attend training and safety related sessions, including the Leadership Observation & Feedback Team and the MPRO CARE Committee sponsor, WHMIS/SRT/Subway Rulebook, Racking Inspection –IAPA, Transportation of Dangerous Goods; and to continue with PMAC courses relevant to M&P Department
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees

 

Annual Salary Range: $111,784.40 – $139,776.00 (Level 12SA) – 35 Hour Work Week
