Robert Half is working on an exciting highly strategic and newly created role, with an established large organization in Edmonton. Reporting to the Director, the Category Manager will be responsible for helping to drive change, establishing best practices and identifying future business requirements for their specific categories of goods, understanding the related market dynamics and trends, and developing business plans to secure needed supply in the most cost-effective way. As the Category Manager, you will develop and implement annual business plans for your category to deliver optimized category performance; Analyze company’s historical spend and identify future demands within the specific categories; Proactively identify opportunities and lead the development of long term business plans to create value, improve the delivery of cost effective and risk-managed service and supply from Suppliers and ensure long term stability and security of supply; Perform market and industry research and identify and implement a plan to secure a long term cost effective supply and service from partnering suppliers; Develop industry intelligence by understanding the international and domestic supply market for the specific category and identify the associated risks and constraints, and designing mitigations for them; Provide technical input in the development of an annual strategic sourcing plan which includes identification of new sourcing activities, proactive management of expiring contracts, priority setting and resource allocation; Lead the resolution of contractual issues within the Category; Provide timely advice and market information to internal stakeholders and be a visible champion of a customer-focused culture in Category Management; Lead supplier relationship management by working effectively with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure good contract performance, sustainment of value creation, supplier innovation and identification of potential futures issues; Establish business analytics, performance management goals and KPIs for specific sub categories within the Category portfolio, If you love strategy, change management and have a passion for people and supply chain and category management, this is the role for you!
The successful candidate for Category Manager will hold a Post-Secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Business or Supply Chain. In addition, they will have 5+ years of experience specifically in strategic sourcing and category management. They will also have a background and experience market research and analysis, strategy, process development and change management and the full cycle RFP process. A professional designation such as a SCMP, or similar, and experience in the industrial, oil and gas, utilities sectors will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
