Hours: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm


  • $60-80K (dependant on experience, certifications and ability to create value on Day 1)

A glimpse at the role:

The Purchasing Manager ensures that every ingredient and product in our facility fits with our values and food safety requirements. They are also tasked with developing and executing inventory management strategies that will allow for ongoing cost-saving opportunities, inventory optimization, improvements to material flow while minimizing supply chain disruptions to the business.

You’ll be accountable for the Inventory and Warehouse areas of the facility and will make use of best practices and performance metrics to continuously improve supply chain performance. You’ll be expected to successfully lead and guide the daily activities of a team and coach team members for optimal performance.

Some of the things you’ll get paid to do:

Purchasing and Inventory Control

  • Acquire ingredients and products to meet RFRK’s business objectives, which include reducing food and labour costs, maintaining values, and pleasing clients

  • Support and assist the Food Planning team in sourcing and procurement

  • Establish and manage the auditing process to ensure ingredients received in-house are aligned with approved ingredient/product database

  • Use analytical and quantitative methods to understand, predict and enhance supply chain processes (costs, productivity, demand patterns, etc.)

  • Establish and utilize best methods (statistical models and tools) in creating purchasing forecasts and respective inventory targets

  • Attend Trade Shows with goals including but not limited to: receiving discounts, maintaining supplier relationships, connecting with potential new suppliers, and re-thinking possible relationships with existing producers

  • Ensure that Production scheduling is fully supported by material availability, quality verification, and accurate staging                                

  • Maintain optimum inventory levels of materials in order to supply products in a timely manner and in sufficient quantity. Keep a constant check on inventory stock levels to maximize business efficiencies

  • Readily adapt to a dynamic menu and highly variable, perishable array of ingredients

  • Act as functional backup to Purchasing Coordinators when they’re absent

Supplier Relations

  • Develop and foster strong relationships with suppliers, establishing multiple sources to ensure continuous supply and availability of purchased components

  • Develop and execute effective supplier evaluation and performance tracking strategy

  • Negotiate pricing with current and contingency suppliers in order to achieve departmental goals

  • Resolve material claims with suppliers through enforcement of vendor expectations/root cause investigation process, and applicable contractual stipulations

  • Ensure that all inbound product ingredients match our established specifications

  • Responsible for supplier education (changes to relevant RFRK policies, procedures, and allergen and food safety-related protocols


  • Establish and manage RFRK’s approved vendor and product lists/database (excludes large scale equipment)

  • Maintain supplier files, purchase prices, price fluctuations and quality records.

  • Track and report key metrics and Key Performance Indicators including but not limited to: food costs, local and organic content


  • Plan, organize and supervise Supply Chain team and all daily purchasing and warehouse activities

  • Collaborate with all departments and key stakeholders on projects that drive the overall mission, vision, and goals of RFRK

  • Manage, coach, develop and support direct reports

  • Ensure that departmental resources match current and future business requirements

  • Support and manage projects as needed in order to achieve department and company priorities

  • Assist in sourcing of new ingredients for R&D related initiatives

  • Perform all other related duties as required

Required Education & Experience:

  • College diploma or University degree; or an equivalent combination of related experience and education

  • Supply Chain Management (CSCMP, APICS, MCIPS, ISM) designation or equivalent

  • 5+ years of incrementally responsible purchasing experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory work experience in a larger scale food production facility

  • Knowledge of HACCP and Provincial Safety Regulations

  • Proficiency with the Google suite of office software, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Experience with bid-management; preparing and managing RFIs, RFQs, RFPs

  • Experience with MRP and/or ERP systems

  • Working knowledge of MS Dynamics NAV

  • French language skills
