It’s an exciting time to be in the wood products business. The market is increasingly recognizing the benefits of building with wood. Innovation, such as the development of mass timber building technologies, is driving architects to increase the use of wood in both structural and decorative applications. Western is transforming how and where it moves lumber from its Manufacturing facilities to market. It is seeking to simplify and optimize a diverse logistics network that includes a mix of interdivisional, reload and direct-to-customer “vehicles.” With its recent purchases of a distribution center and a lumber manufacturing operation in Washington state, combined with its unique geographic position, a significant opportunity exists to develop a supply chain that is reliable, consistent and cost effective.
With the overarching objective of Defining a Higher Standard in safety and continuous improvement, in this newly elevated role, the VP, Logistics & Supply Chain is responsible for setting the strategy to optimize and then lead an integrated, global logistics organization, by delivering targeted products to selected customers on time at the lowest possible cost. VP, Logistics & Supply Chain will work closely with the VPs of Manufacturing and of Sales, establishing working relationships across the business.
As the ideal candidate, you are a supply chain/logistics/transportation executive with senior level experience managing in a complex, multi product, and ideally multi modal, business that distributes products globally. Experience that includes container (rail or ship) is preferred. The role is best suited to a dynamic, high energy leader who is comfortable setting long term strategies in a fast paced and changing environment. You also bring superior business acumen and an ability to transform the business through performance metrics.
Located in Vancouver, BC, with travel required, the VP, Logistics & Supply Chain will be taking on a significant strategic and transformation mandate – to create a scalable and optimized logistics function that supports a growing, market-leading business.
