Manager, Food Purchasing at A&W Food Services of Canada Inc.

The Manager, Food Purchasing is responsible for providing professional and effective food purchasing services for A&W food products and for achieving service objectives.  A member of a diverse and dynamic team, this role is responsible for a designated portfolio of products that include animal proteins and products with short shelf lives. The Manager, Food Purchasing is accountable for working collaboratively with food suppliers and distributors to ensure that customer needs, food safety and profit contributions are considered appropriately in the purchasing and distribution practices across the A&W system.

Based at the corporate office in North Vancouver, the Manager, Food Purchasing reports to the Senior Director, Purchasing. The role works closely with suppliers, with other members of the Purchasing and Distribution team as well as with franchisees and members of A&W’s Operations, Product Development, Marketing and Finance teams. The role involves periodic and project-based business travel up to 30% of the time.

The candidate must be a positive self-starter with high integrity, sound judgment and superb negotiation and influencing skills. Passionate about customer service and food quality, the candidate must be a resourceful and innovative relationship builder and problem-solver with excellent analytical and verbal and written communication skills. With a strong drive for results and a commitment to continuous improvement, the candidate must have a thorough understanding of food purchasing, good manufacturing practices, food safety, supply chain and inventory management principles.  A leader and role model, the ideal candidate has abundant common sense and the proven capacity to skillfully manage people and a diverse array of projects. An integrative, strategic thinker who works well with detail and remains calm under pressure, the candidate must be a team player and possess the wisdom to know when to ask for help. Willing and able to travel up to 30% of the time, the candidate must have a business degree and at least 5 years of experience in the food industry, preferably in food purchasing.
